Coming to a Shelf Near You: My Guy Barbaro

As a native of the Louisville area, this interview caught my attention. Veteran horse jockey Edgar Prado has written about his experiences with one of the more famous thoroughbreds in recent history. Prado appeared on NPR's Weekend Edition Saturday to talk about his new book, My Guy Barbaro: A Jockey's Journey Through Love, Triumph, and Heartbreak with America's Favorite Horse.

This story is especially poignant as tragedy struck at this weekend's 134th running of the Kentucky Derby. The second-placing filly Eight Belles broke down immediately following the finish. Sadly, it was her last race.

Barbaro captured the heart of millions of animal lovers and horse racing fans. It's my hope that this book will shed some light on the story behind the headlines: the love that a professional has for his racing partner.
